Pointing at a table

Typing @ to name the tables a question is about, and what Mira does when you don't.

Overview

Most of the time you do not need to tell Mira which table to use. It searches every table you can see and picks the ones that fit the question. Typing @ lets you name a table yourself, for the times you want to be sure.

When to point

  • The same name in two places. Sales and Finance both hold a table called orders. Pointing at one removes the doubt.
  • A particular upload. You added a spreadsheet this morning and want the answer from that, not from the connected system it overlaps with.
  • A big question. Narrowing to one or two tables gets a faster, tighter answer.

How to point

  1. Type @ anywhere in your question. A list of the tables you can see opens above the box.
  2. Keep typing to narrow the list, or use the arrow keys.
  3. Press Enter or click a table. It appears in your question as a small tag.
  4. Finish the question and send it as usual.

You can point at more than one table in a question. Each one shows as its own tag, and you can delete a tag like any other word.

What Mira does when you don't

Without a tag, Mira searches. The first thing you see in an answer is what it searched and what it matched, so you always know which tables it drew on.

If the tables it picked are not the ones you meant, ask again with a tag. Mira will use only what you pointed at.

Which tables you can see

The list under @ is the same set of tables Mira searches: the ones your departments hold, plus any the organisation has shared with them. It is not every table in the organisation. If a table you expect is missing, your department lead can grant it, and the data catalogue shows what exists across the organisation.
